Family Day Out

Hands‑on history for all ages

Make a day of it on Yorke Peninsula: explore rooms filled with local stories, curious objects and friendly volunteers ready to answer questions.

Stansbury Museum welcomes families looking for something different to do by the sea. Exhibits highlight everyday life on the coast — domestic objects, tools and photos — so children can picture how people lived here.

Displays are easy to navigate and there’s space to pause, talk and discover together. You set the pace — quick look or slow wander.

What kids love

Young visitors gravitate to colourful displays and “how it worked” demonstrations. Short labels and friendly stories help them connect objects to real people — fishers, farmers and families from Stansbury’s past.

Encourage children to pick a favourite object in each room and tell why. It turns the visit into a shared treasure hunt.

Tips for parents

Plan 45–90 minutes depending on attention spans. Bring water, take photos, and jot questions to ask volunteers. Combine your visit with a jetty walk or picnic on the foreshore for an easy full‑day outing.

Family Learning at Stansbury Museum

Why museums work for families

Museums turn curiosity into learning. Objects anchor memory: when a tool, photo, or map is linked to a local story from Yorke Peninsula, children and adults remember more and ask better questions.

A simple inquiry loop

Pacing that really helps

Plan short cycles of 15–20 minutes: look → explain → do. Add brief breaks. This keeps energy high and reduces cognitive overload, especially with mixed ages.

Micro‑projects you can try

Make it inclusive

Give everyone a role: an adult manages timing, a teen takes photos/notes, younger kids hunt for shapes, colors, and symbols. If you need any support, check hours & tickets or contact us via the contact page before your visit.
